Simple Success: Is Content Deficit Really The Problem?

In these days of Google, kindle, and podcasts on demand, we live in a content-rich environment. if you want to know more about something all you need to do is ask SirI or Alexa!

I'm not sure if I have ever heard anyone wistfully say, "If only I knew where or how to get more information on that..."

I know a lot more than I do.

What if a plan is really what is needed? Here are a two actual (and perhaps too personal) examples.

Here's what I know - what I have done - and what I am doing now.

I know sugar is not great for my ultimate weight loss goal, but knowing and doing something about it are two different things. When I took an honest assessment I found I had way too many exceptions for why I should go ahead and have that latte or late-night snack. I don't need more information about sugar, I need an actual plan to remove it or reduce it from my life..

My current SMART goal is that I can have sugar in my morning coffee, but then I need to lay off treating myself at other times of the day, except for when Judy bakes something and brings it to work(she's amazing), or at a special function when dessert is served. Deciding that at this time in my life I don't snack on sugar is helping me to be who I want to be, not just know about weight loss. This is bringing actual change.

I know that being an Enneagram 1 means that I am prone to being nit-picky or perfectionistic. I can't help but see things that could be improved and then feel compelled to make things right, or the best they can be. While this tendency can be helpful, it can also be hurtful, to the people around me but also in how I judge myself. Knowing that helps a little, but it still doesn't bring the transformation needed for me to harness my diving design rather than letting it rule me.

My SMART goal for this area was to start a concerns journal and then discern what I needed to do with whatever I saw. I tried that and it didn't help... so I have a new SMART goal. I am engaging in personal Enneagram training to help me process my thought patterns and incorporate kingdom principles in a transformational way. This besetting mindset has gone on too long, and it is time for a shift.

What do you know something about that you need to actually address in your life?

How about the people around you? Do you hear them talking about something they want to see happen in their lives, but they don't have an actual plan for?

Understanding, and applying, the basic tenets of coaching provides tools for traction and growth.

Knowing more about something is probably not what is missing from a growth plan, how to apply what is known in a real-life setting changes everything.

If you want actual change in your life hiring a coach or engaging in coach training could make all the difference!
